Last month I had the pleasure of attending an evening hosted by Martin Miller’s Gin. A premium British gin brand which was created back in 1999 when the man behind the gin, Martin Miller, decided he wanted a superior gin for his gin and tonic.
Having recently visited Victoria Baths and the Gin Festival 2018, I’ll have to admit I’m certainly acquiring a taste for the stuff! So was delighted to try Martin Miller’s Gin for the very first time.
The event took place at the beautiful King Street Townhouse and was also attended by some of the lovely ladies from WeBlogNorth
The evening kicked off with a delicious cocktail made from Martin Miller’s Gin, rosehip and rhubarb cordial, vegan foam and edible flowers, it was utterly divine.
We then got to taste the 3 Martin Miller’s gins that were on offer. The original Martin Miller’s Gin, Westbourne Dry Gin and the 9 Moon Aged Gin which is matured for nine months in American oak bourbon barrels.
One of the most striking qualities of Martin Miller’s Gin is the smoothness of it. We were sampling the gins straight, with no mixer. I was expecting a familiar burn on the throat that you would usually get when necking straight shots. But this was not the case with Martin Miller’s. This is because of the pure Icelandic spring water that is used to blend the spirit, creating a smooth finish so you will experience the flavour, rather than an after-burn.
After some more gin tasting we were treated to some insane magic from the hugely talented Jake Banfield – he performed some mind-boggling tricks, if you like magic you should definitely check out one of his shows!
As the evening drew to a close, we got a create our own G&T’s. I enjoyed the original Martin Miller’s Gin the most, as it had a fresh cucumber after-taste on my palate. So the Martin Miller’s team advised me to try it with some basil and grapefruit and some classic Fever Tree Tonic. It was so refreshing and the perfect way to round off a delightful evening.
A huge thank you to the Martin Miller’s team for inviting me along to their Magical Cocktail Masterclass, I had the best time! It’s certainly become my new favourite premium gin – I’m sure a few bottles will be consumed over the Summer! Happy days!
